The Kids-TALK Children Advocacy Center (CAC) is a community-based program that serves children through 17 years of age, providing comprehensive services to suspected child victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, or other forms of psychological trauma, including witness to violent crimes.

This program utilizes a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to coordinate the investigation, assessment, treatment, and prevention of child abuse in Wayne County.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

About the Campaign

In 2014, The Guidance Center (TGC) successfully raised more than $1 million in Phase I of a campaign to ensure a permanent home for our Kids-TALK CAC in Midtown Detroit. The generous support of more than 30 individual donors and foundations purchased the two historic buildings and marks a significant investment in the growing vitality of Midtown Detroit.

The goal for Phase II of this campaign is to raise another $1 million for program expansion and building renovations to increase our capacity and our ability to effectively reach and serve the children and families of our community.

Outreach & Prevention Services

The prevention of child abuse and neglect in Wayne County requires a collaborative community response. The Kids-TALK CAC provides numerous outreach, education, and prevention activities throughout Wayne County to build trauma-informed systems. These include: trainings, presentations, work-shops, and other community events such as the Youth Poetry Slam. These services are aimed to engage the community in the awareness of child maltreatment and to encourage citizens to become agents of social and political change on the behalf of children.
